Riders on the 23 February 2013 300K had dry weather, but it was hot — temps reached the mid-80s, and one rider reported his Garmin read 112F! — unseasonably humid, and a strong wind blew from the SW for most of the ride, making the south-bound 95-mile stretch to Avon Park a challenge. The smell of orange blossoms was overpowering. And, yes, that was a road-kill bear that you saw.
We did have one tragedy, as Diana was in a crash that resulted in her transport by EMS to Lakeland Regional Hospital. Please keep her and her family in your thoughts and prayers. And please always remember that you can go from riding along, having a great time to being on the ground, injured, in the blink of an eye.
RUSA members can order the ACP 300K medal to commemorate their accomplishment here.
Special thanks to our AWESOME volunteer, Cara, who again helped out while husband Ched successfully completed the route on his mountain bike. Cara provided y’all lunch in Avon Park and checked many of you in at the finish. Thank you again, Cara, for all you’ve done to help make these rides successful and fun!
43 of the 48 official starters completed the route. Results are listed below, alphabetically. Congratulations again on a great accomplishment!
