200K ACP Brevet – Clermont-Lake Lindsey (15 January 2023)

Date: 15 January 2023 — This is a Sunday!
Start Time: 0700
Time Limit: 13.5 hours (must finish by 2030)
Distance: 200km
Location: Clermont, Florida (start/finish at the Holiday Inn Express)
Cost: $30
Cue Sheet (rough draft, final after the workers’ ride)
Bike Inspection: Not required.  HOWEVER, no lights/reflective stuff + riding in low-light or dark conditions = DNF with no exceptions.
Registered Riders: 4 (as of 23 November 2022) — Burke, Quinn, Rozelle P, Rozelle S

Some notes on the ride:

—This is a reprise of a route that was lasts run in 2013. The “draft” cue sheet needs significant updating given some changes in the control locations and road conditions in the last decade, but it is an accurate overview of what to expect on this route. The final cue sheet will be published following the workers’ ride, no later than 1/11/2023.

—The route visits some familiar roads (and hills) around Clermont before finding the hills in Pasco and Hernando counties. This is not a flat or easy route.

—There is a 300K the prior day! By popular demand, we’re running the events backwards, with the 300K first, which should facilitate travel for those coming from out of town or locals wishing to head home Sunday after a short(er) ride.

You must be a current RUSA member to participate. Learn more about RUSA here. And join or renew here.

—You must be registered for the ride and sign the waiver. “Ride-alongs” jeopardize not only the existence of our rides but all of American randonneuring. If you want to volunteer to support all riders, please contact me and we’re thankful for the help.

Lights and reflective stuff are NOT required to ride, but they’re a really good idea and you’ll be DQ’d if you finish in low-light conditions without them.

Expect no on-route SAG: If you cannot complete the route for any reason, be prepared to arrange your own transportation back to the start/finish.

Post-ride food and libations: TBD. Hopefully on the food; definitely on the beverages.

—Where’s the GPS file? There is no organizer-provided GPS file on ACP brevets. Accurate navigation is core to self-reliance which is a fundamental aspect of randonneuring. The official route is the cue sheet. PLEASE make your own GPS file rather than rely on someone else and if you are using GPS, PLEASE double-check what your technology tells you against what your eyeballs see on the road. Many people have DNF’d brevets because their tech didn’t work (rather, because they did not know how to work it…) and I think that sucks. It especially sucks in a PBP year.
