Some notes on the ride:

— This the Swamp Rat 200K, which was last run in January 2020, before the world shut down for the pandemic. It was also run as a budget-brevet in December 2018 and was the final day of the Cracker Swamp 1200 in 2016. It’s a loop route from Tavares to Ocala. The last few miles coming back into Tavares are urban and you will have traffic, but most of the rest of the ride is relatively rural and pleasant riding. There are no significant climbs. The cue sheet will be posted a week before the ride. There are no significant changes to the route other than rerouting the start/finish to the La Bella from the location used in the past.

— A current RUSA membership is required to ride; this is a requirement of RUSA’s insurer. There are no exceptions. Check to ensure your membership status is current. You can join or renew your RUSA membership here.

— We’ll have water and grab-and-go stuff at the start and you’ll be well-fed at the conclusion of the ride — dinner is on us — but you’re on your own for food and hydration during the event.

— As with all randonnees, you should be self-sufficient on the road. There is no SAG. If you cannot finish, your plan for returning to the start/finish should not involve the RBA or an event volunteer. We’ll never leave anyone stranded out there, but you may wait many, many hours for a ride. Make sure you know how to read the cue sheet and can navigate without the aid of your GPS or phone. If those things crap out, … you’ve got problems. Navigation is a key part of randonneuring; get with me at the start/finish and I’ll be glad to help you understand the cue sheet if these things are new to you.
